Madhya Pradesh batsman Harpreet Singh has been named by Royal Challengers Bangalore as replacement for the injured Sarfaraz Khan. This marks a remarkable turnaround for Harpreet after erroneous reports of his being detained by the police for a driving incident emerged on the day of the IPL auction, in which he went unsold.

Harpreet's good form, however, did not eventually go unnoticed. The left-handed batsman finished as the leading run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali inter-zonal T20 tournament, with 211 runs in four games, and and in the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy with 271 runs in five innings at an average of 67.75. It is understood Harpreet has already joined the team and turned out for practice on Wednesday.

A former India Under-19 player, Harpreet had played one match for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2010 and three matches for Pune Warriors in 2013. On the day of the IPL auction this year, multiple news agencies and websites had reported that Harpreet was detained for driving his car on to the platform of the Andheri station. It was, however, Harmeet Singh, the left-arm spinner and Harpreet's team-mate in the 2010 Under-19 World Cup, who was involved in the incident.

"Initially, when I wasn't picked in the auction I was a little upset because I thought I would make it considering I was the highest run-getter in the domestic T20 event," Harpreet said after signing for RCB. "There was no clarity on whether I wasn't picked because of the confusion in names or some other reason, so that bothered me a little.

"I never gave up hope and kept working hard because I believed I may get my chances during the course of the tournament. I was thrilled when I got the RCB call-up 2-3 days ago. It is going to be a great learning experience for me and I'm looking forward to this new beginning."

Royal Challengers are scheduled to play next on Sunday against Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.

I would go with only 3 overseas player rather than including watson in my playing XI. Infact, I am even comfortable going with just 10 players. Watson is a liabilty who gives negative returns to the team. And there is no doubt that RCB lose last year's final only due to WATSON and somewhat Aaron.

I guess sarfaraz will soon be out of favor from selectors .I wish he will recover soon and show his mettle in domestic cricket otherwise people will forget and he even got into bad side of kohli which is not good for his growth.Especially senior cricketers feel insecure when they see talented youngsters.I request our young cricketers to be careful both in field and out side.It is hard once you fallen out of favor .goodluck!

He is good, no doubt. But RCB needed a bowler who can bat a bit. These small things can win you tournament. Irfan Pathan could have been handy.

@CRICNODE - Jadhav was never part of SRH. @Arpit Rai - Jaggi is with the Knight Riders currently.

Well, for a young Indian batsman, SRH is the worst! The way they handled KL Rahul, Jadhav, Hooda, Vihari, Vijay Shankar...etc. etc. etc. Atleast, RCB has given Vinod, Mandeep, Baby, etc. enough chances just in the 6 games they have played so far...and people calling for Irfan should know that he got umpteen number of chances (ask Kings XI, Pune, Delhi) with nothing to show so far...He was a champion in his heydays, no doubt.

I think the thought behind his selection is to replace Binny with a solid batsman (Harpreet) and Watson with a good foreign bowler. Now, RCB can play with Gayle, Kohli, ABD, Jadhav, Manpreet, Harpreet, Negi, Mills/Milne, Badree/other foreign bowler, Sreenath/other Indian pacer, Chahal...This way, they have 3 solid bowling with 2 not-so-bad and 2 optional bowlers in Harpreet & Gayle...With Binny, you don't know what's his role?Batting/Bowling. But with Harpreet we know he is mainly a batsman with an occasional bowling.

Harpreet was very good in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. Deserved the break. Solid batsman.. Can lend stability and also attack when required. He shd replace Binny in the squad. RCB shd fortify their bowling with the international bowlers.

Good signing.....RCB needed a left handed all-rounder..... Should be in the starting 11 instead of the misfiring mandeep..... Rcb 11 good next 2 crucial matches..... Gayle,VK,kedar,ABD,harpreet,binny,negi,chahal,badree,avesh,mills..... Hard on someone like head.... But feel badree/Mills need to be given a longer run ..... Virat needs to to trust and give the required push and motivation to binny.... All he needs would be 2 decent overs from binny and few lusty hits.... Have a feeling harpreet will justify his signing.... Go rcb

Why not virat singh or ishank jaggi.. Jaggi needed that break

@SERIOUS I AM, irfan pathan is been d best performer in syed mushtaq ali t20 trophy from last 2 years & dis year he had a brilliant spell of 4-0-10-3 against north zone & those wickets included indian internationals dhawan, yuvi & pant dis shows tat der is no way he is out of form & he has been consistently playing domestic cricket matches from last 2 years. So ur dis point is also invalid & mark my words irfan pathan on any day is better than d likes of binny, watson, pandya, stokes, gony, arvind, jadeja, kaushik etc.
